VARNVILLE — On Friday nights across the Lowcountry, there is no such thing as a small football game. Hampton County High proved the point this past season.
The Hurricanes — formed in 2023 from the consolidation of Wade Hampton and Estill highs — finished their third campaign with an 11-4 record. They dominated their region, going 4-0 in Class 2A Region 5, and advanced all the way to the South Carolina High School League Class 2A Championship Final.
From Two Schools, One Team
When Wade Hampton and Estill merged three football seasons ago, the question was not whether Hampton County could replace two proud programs — it was whether a new identity could be forged fast enough. The Hurricanes answered this year.
The team also participated in the Touchstone Energy Bowl and the Border Bowl 2024, showcasing a program that has refused to act like a startup.
What Comes Next
Spring practice will begin in May. The Hurricanes return key contributors on both sides of the ball, and expectations for 2026 will not be modest.
